i had a dream while sleeping on the green couches in rarig. in my dream, i was awakened by mark rehani dressed as richard simmons, jogging in place. he greeted me briefly and ran off, as i began walking through rarig which had become a strange underground maze of locker lined walls. eventually i found my locker, out of which i took a wooden, silver painted sword that kept getting longer everytime i looked away from it. i got onto a bus that ran through the rarig basement, but everytime it pulled over it would pull right to the wall so it was impossible to get off. Driving in the country, there was a man I admired very much, but I was also afraid of him. I was in pain somewhere. We arrived at a house. We were in the kitchen – something I remember about something he said – about helping me. About cleansing.
In the kitchen I was hurting and he took a pair of scissors and sliced the inside of both my upper thighs. Continue reading

Dream Number 55: “…an iron and wine song about killing mice in the bath tub…”

I’m in the bathroom of my grandmother’s house, trying to kill all the mice that have moved in there. It looks empty, but apparently you can’t put down a bowl without catching several mice, so I’m doing just that. I put down a bowl in the empty bathtub and suddenly it’s full of tiny mice scratching around and trying to get out. So, I pour them into a paper bag at my side, and keep scooping them out. Inspired by what was apparently an iron and wine song about killing mice in the bath tub (it started playing in my mind and I thought it’d be a great idea), I take the little mice out and throw them against the tiled wall. They leave red smears of blood where they hit. Continue reading

The dream begins with me wandering through post-apocalyptic NYC- nobody’s around, all the buildings are ruined and dark, and it’s a very cloudy night out. I go inside the building that I live in, chat with some of the people around, and notice everyone looking hungrily at this one blond girl. It turns out that we are all vampires and she used to be one, but is now human. Of course we have to control ourselves, as there are very few humans left to feed on. I don’t think I can handle it, so I tear out of the room in a quasi werewolf form and head to the roof. Continue reading

Dreams Number 37 & 38: “this is SO not up to building code.”

Emily has sent us the following two dreams:

1) My dream involved a trip to the Body Shop (a strip club on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood, CA) specifically, the ladies room, which was still left in 1970’s decor style – wood paneling and avocado green carpet. There was one area of the bathroom where the walls were literally about one foot apart and as I walked through I got stuck. There was an older Asian lady walking by with a cleaning bucket and I asked to give me a hand. She giggled and said “in a minute” then I managed to squeeze my way through that tiny hallway, but not without a moment of feeling claustrophobic in my dream, all the while thinking “so *this* is how they keep all the dancers thin…this is SO not up to building code. Dream Number 33: “…naked except for a classic Donna Reed apron.”

I walk down the steps to the front of a basement apartment. It’s a cement staircase leading down nine steps. The black metal bars comprise the rail and the window dressings. The door is old and heavy.

I walk in through the door and step down into the kitchen. A broom and coat closet to your immediate right. To the left is long and narrow: sink facing the barred window. There’s refrigerator opposite the closet in 1950s style that generates the vision of what an ice box should be. A stove opposite the window with cut opening that looks down into a living room: it allows some light to come in through the barred windows. The floors are linoleum of yellow and light green which is stripping up in the corner. The cabinets are old with a peeling plaster white like the walls.

An elementary school friend is standing over the stove naked except for a classic Donna Reed apron. She’s frying an egg in a rusted skillet pan. She’s a contrast to the motif with her Vietnamese facial features and jet black hair. The perfect pedicure of her naked feet is far more interesting than any other body part. Continue reading
